Kalender-Icon Hacks/Hackers Vienna: Data Journalism at the Guardian (with Mona Chalabi, Guardian Datablog)

Ort: Raum D / quartier21 – QDK, Museumsquartier, Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Wien, Wien
Dienstag, 3. Dezember 2013 - 16:30 bis 18:30

The Guardian is one of the world’s leading media outlets that uses data for everyday reporting. Since its establishment, the Guardian Datablog has been playing a central role in making data journalism and the concept of open government data popular.

We are glad that one of the editors of the Guardian Datablog, Mona Chalabi, visits Austria to speak at a Symposium on Infographics and Data Journalism in Graz. As she travels through Vienna, we take the chance to invite Mona for a talk at Hacks/Hackers. In her presentation, Mona will focus on the routines and workflows at the Guardian and how data journalism is changing the news.

Please bring your projects and ideas as there will be the chance for lightning talks after Mona’s presentation. You can also join us later for a “Glühwein” in Museumsquartier. Unfortunately we cannot start later than 16:30 as Mona has a plane to catch.

We thank the Department for Media and Design at FH Joanneum in Graz for inviting Mona to Austria.

School of Data Austria is a co-host of the event. During the day, they will have a workshop at Raum D. Some the participants will join us as well.

Mona Chalabi is a researcher and reporter for the Guardian’s data team. She previously worked at the Bank of England, the Economist Intelligence Unit, Transparency International and a UN permanent observer – all of which has made her passionate about reforming aid.

If you can make it to Graz on Monday or know somebody who can, take a look at the programme of the symposium which features a number of excellent data journalists and visualisiation experts:
